Hilton Head Island volunteers and local organizations are organizing a massive 350/30-anniversary celebration to commemorate both the first sighting of Hilton Head Island and the founding of the Town of Hilton Head.
Here is a bit of background history for those new in town – In 1663, Captain William Hilton first entered Port Royal Sound and discovered a headland on his exploration voyage. The Headland was named aptly Hilton’s Headland, or Hilton’s Head. 30 years ago, Hilton Head Island was founded to become the Town of Hilton Head.
The anniversary celebration will start with an open house at Town Hall on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 and conclude in a fantastic beach party on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. There will be many events in between including tours of historic sites and lectures on the area. Click here to view a full list of events.
